How Many Wall Panels Do I Need? A Simple Guide

  • by NE Panels
Light oak acoustic slat wall panels

Ordering the right number of panels first time saves you a second delivery – or paying for panels you don't need. Here's how to work it out for our acoustic slat panels and MDF wall panels.

The quick answer

All of our panels measure 2400 × 600 mm and cover 1.44 m² each. Fitted vertically, one panel covers the full height of a wall up to 2.4 m, so the number you need depends on the width of your wall:

Panels needed = wall width in metres ÷ 0.6, rounded up

Worked examples

Wall width Calculation Panels needed
2.4 m 2.4 ÷ 0.6 = 4 4
3.0 m 3.0 ÷ 0.6 = 5 5
3.5 m 3.5 ÷ 0.6 = 5.83 6
4.2 m 4.2 ÷ 0.6 = 7 7

Top tip: if your wall has sockets, switches or a window to cut around, it's worth allowing one spare panel for awkward cuts.

What if my wall is taller than 2.4 m?

For walls over 2.4 m high, you'll need extra panel lengths to fill the gap above. The best layout depends on your exact height, so send us your wall measurements and we'll help you work out the most efficient way to cover it with the fewest offcuts.

Don't forget trims for acoustic slat panels

Trims give the edges of an acoustic slat wall a neat, finished look. All our trims are 2400 mm long and come in the same real-wood veneers as our panels:

  • End trims (flat, 37 × 21 mm) finish the left and right edges – you'll usually need one for each exposed side.
  • Corner & top trims (L-shaped, 30 × 30 mm) finish the top and bottom edges and external corners. Each covers 2.4 m, so divide the wall width by 2.4 and round up for each edge you want to finish.

How much adhesive?

As a guide for our MDF panels, allow roughly one tube of grab adhesive per panel. We stock Sika Instant Nails and a mastic gun to go with it.

Let our calculator do the maths

Every panel page on our site has a built-in “How many panels do I need?” calculator. Enter your wall width and height, choose which edges need trims, and it works out your panels, trims and adhesive – then adds everything to your basket in one click.
